We took a few days off to visit our special friends, Carl and Bev, in Petersburg. Bev was my supervisor for the last fifteen years at the Lower Kuskokwim School District in Bethel, Alaska. She was the best supervisor that anybody would wish to have. She was supportive, understanding, caring and super intelligent. Carl was a site administrator for the Yup'ik Eskimo village of Akiuk in Kasigluk. Ted was in charge of technology for the school district so he and Carl worked together from time to time. Ted said he always felt better after talking with Carl on the phone because of his clever sense of humor.

Ted and I saw Bev and Carl last September when we passed through Petersburg with our sailboat and promised that we will see them before leaving this area in the spring. We took the ferry to Petersburg and then flew back to Ketchikan.

Before we left Washington to go to the boat, I helped organize a yoga retreat in Shorecrest, the small community near Shelton, where we have our house. We had a great team of yoga teachers and practitioners serving on the committee. The work was arduous, but absolutely rewarding and overwhelmingly successful. Ted and I left two days after the retreat, which meant securing the house and packing in a relatively short timeframe. When we arrived at Ketchikan, work immediately dominated our life. Being on the ferry for nine hours from Ketchikan to Petersburg was just what we needed; rest and relaxation. It was a sunny warm day and we had a terrific time on the water, leaving the navigating to the ferry captain and enjoying the ride through the Clarence Strait and Wrangle Narrows.

Even though we like Petersburg and had sunny and warm weather, we did not do any sightseeing but stayed in Bev and Carl's home and just visited. We shared story after story about our experiences together. The visit was perfect and awesome!
