Granville Island, where we docked the boat, was wild with excitement celebrating Canada Day. The area is normally bustling with tourists but on this occasion it was absolutely crazy with extra large crowds and numerous activities including sidewalk art depicting huge maple leaves in colored chalk. Near us there was a stall selling lobster and corn on the cob which people all around seemed to be eating. Musicians and jugglers were performing in public "squares" and the market was jam-packed with shoppers. We tried to buy a few vegetables there and it was difficult to move from one spot to the next. Later on that evening we heard drumming and saw fireworks in the distance. We were happy to be part of their Independence Day celebrations.
