We set sail from Granville Island, Vancouver, BC around mid-morning in order to catch favorable currents going through Active Pass from the Strait of Georgia to the Southern Gulf Islands. The wind pleasantly pushed us in the right direction for several hours before we had to turn on the motor. The sea was calm crossing the Strait, which is always a concern because of its reputation for unpredictability and potentially violent seas. It took about eight hours to reach our destination. Since we had extra sailors on board (Van and Cida), I was released from deck duties and could focus on preparing delicious and nutritious meals.

Montague Harbour already had many boats tied to mooring balls when we arrived in the early evening. After securing "Shuang Yu" to one of the few remaining balls, we quickly lowered the dinghy and motor and Van and Ted went ashore to explore. Meanwhile, Cida and I stayed on board and relaxed. It is a calm anchorage with hills on three sides, shaped like a horseshoe. After a while a man came around in a small dinghy collecting mooring fees. He was kind enough to give us some information on local bus transportation so we were all set to explore the island in the morning.
