Last night we visited the Gurung museum at Ghandruk. It was an old house built in the traditional way and full of items that would have been used in the past and some that we have seen in actual use while trekking. The upper floor of the house was still being used to store grain, mostly millet although there were also potatoes and other things up there. Gurung is the name of a Nepalese clan (cultural group) and a common family name. At a house near the museum Pam and I were dressed in traditional outfits and photographed.
Today seemed quite a long walk but it was only 10 or 12 km (3 to 4 miles) from Ghandruk, elevation 1,940 meters (6,364 feet) back to the starting point at Nayapul 1,070 m (3, 510 feet). Coming down 870 meters (2,854 feet) is quite strenuous on its own but the extra 10 or 12 km really made us both exhausted by the time we reached Nayapul. We were glad of the taxi ride back to the hotel in Pokhara. All in all it was a very enjoyable trek. We saw many remote villages, spoke with lots of very nice people and felt very safe.
