Wednesday May 12: A new beautiful morning and no wind. Washed down the boat and dink (dingy). After lunch we took Spot, by bus into Savannah for a little sightseeing food. He had a great time - see his blog. Still a very pretty city with it's squares filled with old live-oaks & benches, and a great river-front. After we returned, by cab, we received an invitation from the Capt. of the Rebecca II. A 117' 'Speedship' yacht (built in Louisianna, & owned by the fella that owns the Louisianna Cell-phone company) that had just finished a $6.5 million refurbishment and is just beautiful (worth about $35 million). Solid wood cabinet interior and custom marble flooring. Hand crafted table, chair and bar surfaces. Hot tub on the top deck with a wet bar top it all off. Richard, the captain, offered margaritas and we enjoyed a delightful evening with Richard, his wife, son, daughter in law and grand daughter (Richard is captain, his wife is the cook. There are 5 other crew members we did not meet).
Tuesday May 11: A beautiful morning, but white-caps in the coffee mug again. A 20 knot wind out of the east made for a very wet ride up the Ogeechee River Inlet until we got to turn away from the ocean up Burnside Creek. The Skidaway Narrows followed - sure was narrow, but only bumped bottom once. This is the land of 8 to 9 foot tides, so we have to be very aware of depths & tide status.
We tied up (after gassing up - diesel that is) in the Isle of Hope marina, about 10 miles SE of Savannah. A quaint place on the Skidaway River. Spot came out of his new house, for a change and assisted the Captain. Didn't seem to help much since we bumped bottom. Spot needs a little land time. We'll let you know how it works out.
