11/02/2009, Off shore, Passage from Tongatapu to Opua, New Zealand
Last night, no wind, so we just slid along in the 3 knot range under power, which we are keeping low to conserve fuel. We are in the middle of a high, and will get these light winds for the next couple of days. Trying to get through them and still have fuel is the challenge because after the calm, lurks the low. All is well on board and hopefully we will get enough wind to move us along. We have 690 miles to go.

All is well on board. We continue to be plagued by light SSW wind and are as close hauled as we can get. the engine does help keep the boa steady in the troughs. Eventually the wind is supposed to switch to SE. That will sure help us out. Other than that the weather is nice, but getting chilly. We should be crossing the geographical dateline today.

10/31/2009, Off shore, Passage from Tongatapu to Opua, New Zealand
Light winds are once again on the menu for today. We are motor sailing along in the 4 to 5 knot range. It looks like we will approach Minerva Reef this evening. More than likely we will by.pass this stopping place because the weather looks favorable to me. We are checking in with Bob McDavitt, our weather router to be sure. All is well on board. We did have a number of trick-or-treaters last night. Funny, most of them were wearing bird costumes....must be the "in" thing this year...quite realistic too! LOL

10/30/2009, Off shore, Passage from Tongatapu to Opua, New Zealand
Happy Halloween everyone. We did manage to leave beautiful Tonga and are now on passage to New Zealand. We hired a weather router to help us out on this passage since timing will be really important. We have been beating into light SW to SSW winds all night using the engine to help us out a bit. The wind is supposed to shift and that will definitely make a big difference. All is well. I don't think the "tricker-or-treaters" will be visiting us tonight! We are still in sight of S/V Tracen J, friends of ours that we are traveling with. I expect in a day or two they will be far ahead of us. We will keep in touch by radio and email.
