Forøvrig er det vinter i Midt-Norge. og skuta ligger fremdeles i vinteropplag

The picture above is from the trip along the Norwegian coastline in july 2007
"The Black Sheep" was bought by us in the summer of 2006, and in july the next year we took the Sheep from Tønsberg to her new homeport in Aure, Nordmøre. About this trip - see the homepage in english: http://sy-theblacksheep.com
At the beginning - The Black Sheep was buildt in Taiwan in the year 1974 by Sassi Chan / Roughwater Boatyard as an Aries 32. It is(I believe) the same boat as the Roughwater 33, and almost similar to the Southern Cross 31, all the same Thomas Gillmer-construction.
The boat is 32 ft long, 290 cm wide and 150 cm deep. The weight is given as 7,5 tons, with a keelweight of almost 50% of the total weight.
It is a double ended cutter made of glass fibre with traditional fitting of whole wood teak, constructed after inspiration from the Colin Archer boats.
Description from the 1970`ies:
"Aries is heavily built, and will take abnormal punishment at sea. She is an offshore cruiser capable of going almost anywhere in salt water".
Our boat was owned by an American - Felix Knauth - since the middle of the 1980 `ies.
The very first owner we know little about, but a few records indicate that the first name of the boat was "Claire".
The American owner crossed the Atlantic to Europe some time in the mid 1980 ìes. He had then changed to a new rig with aluminium mast, and installed some new long trip equipment, renewed the deck, deck house, engine and the electric works replaced. He baptised the boat "the Black Sheep".
