Well, the anxiety of not knowing what grade and school has finally come to an end! I am going to be teaching a 3rd and 4th grade combo class at LR Green Elementary School. Now the real anxiety begins! I am super happy about the school placement. LR Green is a wonderful school. If I couldn't go back home to North Broadway, Green was my next choice. It is always high scoring, has a great reputation for great teachers, has a beautiful campus, and a wonderful principal. On top of all that, it is conveniently located on the south side of Escondido (which shaves several minutes off my commute!). The grade level is the perplexing issue. I haven't taught either, so will have my hands full with coming up to speed on not just one, but two new curriculum. It will be a busy year, but I am looking forward to the challenge (remind me I said that next time you see me and I'm hyperventilating!!!).
Glen has been a doll and put his varnishing projects on hold to help me move in and set up my new classroom (Room 30). I just became "official" on Friday and we had the truck loaded up on Saturday morning. I'm writing this on Tuesday morning - very early in the morning because I haven't been able to sleep much the past few days. Hopefully, we can get bulletin boards finished up and all the boxes unpacked and the contents put away in a somewhat organized manner. Last night, we went to a BBQ put on by one of the 4th grade teachers. It was great to get to meet one half of my team and we can already tell they are a fun group. My first "have to be there" day is tomorrow and then kids start on Monday. Yikes!!!
While impatiently waiting for the school news, we did try our best to enjoy our last few days of freedom. We spent an exciting day at the Del Mar race track with Sunday, but sadly didn't win big (could it have something to do with not betting big?!!). It was fun to study the line up and plunk down our $2. for each race. All three of us used the best handicapper's tips, looked at the jockey riding, and then picked the best named horse! I thought I had a sure thing going with Irridescent Red (the color of my new car!), but it didn't even place. Ugh!
We were able to fit in one last trip to Catalina as well. Dennis and Cathy went with us and Fred and Jeanette met us there on their boat. We spent one night at White's Landing and then went to Two Harbors. It had been quite a while since we'd had a Buffalo Milk - still tasty as ever! The karaoke machine was pulled out as well, and I think it's safe to say we all had a very fun night!
The picture for this entry is a reunion picture. Frank and Barb from Destiny had flown home from Fiji (where their boat is) and stopped by in San Diego for a couple of days before flying back. Jaime and Christine from Morning Light (who are now living aboard their boat in Long Beach) came down as well. It was fantastic to see some of our cruising family again, although it felt a little weird to be doing it on our home turf. We're so jealous that Destiny is continuing on their voyage and will be heading from Fiji to Vanuatu, New Cal, then on to Australia. Guess we'll be living through their blog now!
