Just Hanging in Kaua'i!

Isn't this a darling family? We'd like you to meet Myles, Vina, and their cute little guy, Kanale. It has been so great to get to spend time with them while we're "hanging" in Kaua'i. It has been awesome for Glen and Myles to have time to "talk story" about Stanley, Glen's brother and Myles' dad - it's obvious they both love and miss him a bunch. Vina is a doll and an incredible cook. They had us over to spend a few nights with them at their lovely home and we probably gained 5 pounds from her yummy meals and baking (and they let us do laundry - yeah!!). She's promised to share a couple of her secret recipes - pumpkin crunch... yum! :) Kanale is a trip. He's a lot of fun to be around and keeps everyone on their toes. He has an amazing vocabulary for a 2 1/2 year old and melts our hearts every time he calls us Uncle Glen and Auntie Sally. We are so looking forward to getting to spend more time with them and also meeting Vina's two girls who should be flying back in tomorrow from California.
Amazingly, we have another "small world" story to share. While in New Zealand, Glen played quite a bit in a band with a set of twin brothers. They were originally from S. Africa, but were pretty adventurous and well traveled. Somehow, we think through Facebook (although we hate to admit it can be used for good!), one of the brothers contacted Glen. It turns out, he had left New Zealand shortly after we did last year and moved back to Kaua'i (he had lived here for several years in the past). Jonathan, who is a fantastic guitar player, invited Glen to play with his band here, so Saturday night, Glen got to play a little bit at a restaurant called Trees. It was wonderful! If you get a chance, you can see the band (minus Glen) play a Santana song on YouTube - just do a search for La Strada at Trees (we're so amazed at what you can now find on-line!). Unfortunately, the lead singer of the band is moving to Norway, so we're not sure if there will be any more opportunities to play, but at least it was fun to get out and "rock" again!
Not sure if I had mentioned it before, but we found out recently that the tenants in our house are going to be moving back to Virginia in mid-July. We had been thinking we would stay living aboard the boat once we got home, but their notice made us stop and think - well, maybe for a few minutes at least! After weighing all the pros and cons, we have decided to definitely stay living aboard and re-rent the house with a one-year lease. After the year, we can reassess, but we think we'll be very happy staying aboard The Dorothy Marie. (If not, we may be hitting some of you up for a room once in while!:) After searching the net for marinas in San Diego, we now have a few spots to choose from to call our home marina - we'll let you know when we decide (again, we're amazed what we can get done through the internet... who knew?!!!).
Pete, our friend who is going to make the crossing back to San Diego with us, is coming in this afternoon, so we're feeling like this trip is coming to an end all too quickly. Yikes! Wasn't it just a few weeks ago he and Karren were visiting us in Mexico? How could it possibly be over two years later already? Our current thoughts are that we will be leaving Kaua'i around the 8th of May - of course, weather depending. That should put us into San Diego sometime around the first of June (we hope, at least!). It's exciting to hear Gary and Donna are flying in from Costa Rica for our return and that Darlene may be throwing a big "They're Back" party. We'll let you know if/when a date is officially set - probably once we are underway and have a better sense of our real arrival date. We can't wait to see everyone! Big hugs!!!
