Guess it wasn't too hard to guess what Glen was up to in the last photo, although we loved the creative thinking! We'll have to look for an Ultra Charmin kit next! :)
We succumbed to the pressure of our peers and bought a Coopers brew kit. It came with everything we needed to make our first 23 liters! It is a fairly easy process, although it would make a fantastic science project at school with all the chemical reactions and using a hydrometer to figure specific gravity (okay, maybe not for kindergartners!). Our first batch is now bottled and waiting in the brew locker (formerly the forward head!) until we can taste our first sips - maybe 2 weeks or so. We loved Karin and Mike's name and have officially christened our brewery The Dorothy Marie Microbrewery! Boat names out here are constantly getting abbreviated, so it's TDM Microbrew for short! We sure hope it turns out well because it will save us a ton of money and space. Feel free to drop on in anytime for a pint!
In addition to being the head brew Meister, Glen has kept busy with projects (more than he would like!) and I've been trying to reprovision and find places to store it all. We're heading off to Whangarei for a couple of days. Glen's sax is ready to pick up, so he's going to give it one last try jamming with Steve tonight. They have played together through several countries now - starting back in Mexico over a year ago. It will be hard to say good-bye, but we're already planning to meet back up during summer vacation in 2011!
It hasn't rained since getting the hatch worked on, so we're still not sure about our leaks. It's supposed to get nasty tonight, so I guess we'll find out when we get home tomorrow if we're dry, or not! Our fingers, toes, and eyes are all crossed!
