Living the Dream
Together once again, Passage II & CharAnn
03/05/2010

Jim & Lucy on Passage II just pulled into Chacala after overnighting from Mazatlan. So we're back together again!

Question is.....will they sleep now or are we getting together for cocktails? We think sleep so it might be breakfast instead.

Just so everyone coming to Chacala knows, the bugs are worse than the first time we were here. So everyone get lots of repellent!

And, the roads are under construction! They are working hard through the piles of sand, stone and concrete. Lots of digging, shoveling, and pounding going on but town is still nice!

Chacala northbound
03/04/2010

Hi everyone! We're in Chacala again this time heading north. We're over 2 months behind in blogs due to site malfunctions and unavailable internet service. Don't I'll get it updated. We are having a good time, lots to report to everyone when we get home.

We are heading north hoping to hook up with former Ventura West neighbors -SouthTrail, Sea Oak, Passage II, Wind Ryder with visitors Slow Ride and Andanzas - before going into the Sea of Cortez. Then to find a home for the boat for the summer while we go back home to NY.

Here's a picture of the last fish we caught and threw back. Anyone know what it is? It's tuna family I figure except it has teeth. Maybe Sierra?

Til then, everyone take care.

La Cruz Day 9, 10
01/17/2010

Got up late (thank you hunny) and went to Mega. Spent over 2 hours going through isle and then loading everything into our bags & cart. Took the bus back and spent a long time trying to put everything away. So tired! We had a small dinner and I fell asleep early while Jim stayed up late.

Coffee, net and internet this morning! No screwing around as we stayed one more day in the marina than we had planned on (birthdays really mess up working on the boat!). While I'm on the internet and getting caught up, Jim is cleaning and trying to wax the hull. It's looking bad and the water spots just won't come off. We'll probably just pay someone to do it at the end of the season.

Bob -Taisho stopped by to visit. We'll catch up with him once we get back out in the anchorage. We'll hopefully be leaving for Yelapa tomorrow.

sounds like fun... How about sharing what kind of expenses you are incuring? how long can I live in Mexico on $15,000?
La Cruz Day 8
01/16/2010, N20 46.115 W105 22.609

Happy B-Day to me! Put a load of laundry in (the ice chest!) to soak for the day and did dishes and filled the water tanks.

We had breakfast at the yacht club with Don & Judy. We watched the dredger moving along the marina. This is a self-powered model where the backhoe on one end pulls it forward while the bucket on the other end is the rudder. It is quite a site to see! We also got to see how the ponga that was tied up to it was pushed by the bucket to the other side of the channel. It was really funny (wish I had the camera with me).

Got the bus to Bucerias where a festival is starting today. We walked the beach side of the town for a while, looking at all the things for sale. There was quite a bit of Huichol Indian bead stuff for sale (should have taken a picture - I'm getting lazy). One shop had a window full of day of the dead dolls, interesting to see a window full of those fashionistas! We sat in a restaurant on the beach and had a few beers and ceviche. A local cat was hanging around (shared some of our ceviche) and started playing with the zipper pulls on the back pack. Cute!

After the nice relaxing morning we headed back to the marina (instead of taking yet another bus to continue going to Mega for supplies as we had intended this morning). We switched out the load of laundry, another load in while the other was hung on the life lines and rails to dry. Off we went to Philo's.

We had a few beers at Philo's and hung out listening to the jukebox that was playing while the band set up. Don, Judy & Rob with Dennis on Dolce Vita came in later. The band started playing and we had to go dance! I didn't think I was going to be able to dance much after walking around all morning and due to the fact that the last boogie-woogying made my back really sore for days! I was wrong of course! Don & Judy got the band to play Happy Birthday for me!

We also got to see a great salsa routine by two of the employees during a break. They were absolutely fabulous! Philo's has salsa lessons by those two if anyone is interested! Needless to say, we closed Philo's!

La Cruz Day 7
01/15/2010

Up really early (did we really sleep?) while it was still dark out. We heard a lot of boaters start chattering about the crappy night and had some who had had it and started in for the marina.

Once we had some day light, we could see that it was nasty out. Jim's exact comment was "ugly as a $2 hooker!" It was black clouds and the seas and swells were every which way. We had planned to go into the marina for a couple of days at first light but of course the winds picked up so we had to wait.

It didn't take long for it to get exciting here in the anchorage! Water spouts started forming in the bay! At first it was two of them partially formed and then they fizzled out. Then a few more single ones kept going for 10 minutes each before they fizzled out. Boats were leaving the anchorage right and left heading to the marina.

We started getting it together and started to raised the anchor when another one, really big one, started again. So Jim lowered the anchor chain again....not running unless we know it's not coming our way. This one made a lot of people nervous! WindRyder is hailing us to come in but we said we had to wait for it to pass. The anchorage was chattering away and then weather guy Mike started in advising us how far away it was and what it's direction was. Mike said that in the 12 years he's been here there has NEVER been water spouts in the winter season (just the summer)! Looks like we are definitely having the full Mexican experience!

Everyone was given instructions to batten down like you where headed into a hurricane! Crap we haven't done a hurricane and we don't want to! As I'm taking video of the twister, Jim is running around tying everything down and we're throwing everything loose down below. This one lasted quite a while but thankfully was headed east of us toward Nuevo Vallarta! We pulled up the anchor and headed in with a dozen other boats.....good day for the marina!

Everyone was out to greet us on the dock! Looks like we're having a "we survived water spouts" dock party tonight. We cleaned the decks and one side of the boat (the other side for another day) and put everything away that had been tossed below during spout watch. Paid for slip and took garbage off. Dock party dwindled to boat party on Andanzas but it was still a good time.

Thank you Linda for the water spout picture! (All I have is video....really cool but not a pic for the log!)

La Cruz Day 4, 5, 6
01/12/2010

We've been getting weather reports that the swells are supposed to get much bigger so we decided to move an anchor a bit farther out in 30 ft. Rest of the day......don't remember (I did not keep up with the log on a daily basis.....BAD Girl!)

1/13/2010

Cleaning up the boat in the morning before heading into town with Bob -Taisho. Really warm today! Stopped by the flea market and picked up popsicle mold so we can make our own. We've really been enjoying the ice cream places here, so far watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe, strawberries and cream and of course chocolate! Also stopped for more pastries (we're addicted).

Back to the boat for leisurely reading while Jim dinghied around the anchorage.

1/14/2010

We had planned to get up and out to another town & try to get supplies today but after the weather from the net, we decided to stay aboard (swells and 20+ winds). So reading again and 1/2 a new swim top made. The winds never materialized so Jim went and visited around the anchorage.

During the night the winds picked up. Had to go on deck to tighten the boom up again (the block kept clunking on the deck) and then it started to rain. Back up to shut the hatches (wide open). Between the wind and the waves, we had a really crappy night's sleep.
