Stay away!
10 January 2011
We had our first of the season heart attack as we entered the bay near San Carlos. I'm checking out the fishing guide and we're just hanging out in the cockpit under sail, when all of a sudden we hear something a lot bigger than us surfacing way too close to us! Scared the hell out of Jim and me! It was of course, a whale--a fin whale. It surfaced just off our port quarter. Just too damn close for us especially since it was bigger than our boat. By the time we got over the shock, Jim turns to me and says "I think this is a really good time for the camera" Ah duh! So I run down to get it and snap some pics (by this time it is a bit farther away from us [thank you Mr. Whale]). This is the best pic of all of them.
We sailed most of the way to Bahia San Carlos but the winds picked up and the time got away from us, so we started up the motor just a couple miles from the anchorage. We had the hook down & set by 5pm and pulled anchor watch for a few hours and all was well. So good to be back under way!
