Flooding again!

28 April 2011
The heavy rains came when we still had lots of snow pack still. Our local bridges closed again as the West Canada Creek (really a river) waters rose above flood levels, almost overflowing the bridges. The locals and emergency crews worked hard sandbagging and refunneling the water direction but without a lot of luck.

The KOA campground had to move a few of their buildings a couple of hundred feet away from the creek, trailer parks along the creek unfortunately got flooded again with skirts and steps torn away, even the hydro dam had its embankments washed away from the high fast waters going around it.

Unfortunately even the towns not near the creeks got hit hard if they were on hills. Lots of funneling rain water came running out of the hills, through houses and down roads making a mess of every road you drove around here. Sinkholes and absolute drop offs as shoulders were washed away and debris in the roads. Of course even the detours for the closed bridges had to have detours! What a mess!

Thank gawd the rains stopped just in time and gave the water soaked lands time to absorb and the creek to recede. Whew! Lengthy cleanup for lots of people.
