Living the Dream
Making crochet all day - what the hey
05/11/2011

I think I didn't mention much about my "free" time in Mexico was devoted to making bookmarks, wedding favors for my niece Michelle's upcoming wedding this June. I managed to get 75 made while I was there, and only have 225 more to go! WHAT did I sign myself up for? Niece Laurie is also helping so I really don't have to do all 225 (whew?!?)

I think by the time I'm finished I'm going to hate black, off white, deep red, light pink and silver! LOL And these are just the crocheted heart ones, then there's all the bead ones. Hey it only takes me 18 minutes to do each one so it should be a breeze! (Don't even think about adding up the time and telling me about it!)

Flooding again!
04/28/2011

The heavy rains came when we still had lots of snow pack still. Our local bridges closed again as the West Canada Creek (really a river) waters rose above flood levels, almost overflowing the bridges. The locals and emergency crews worked hard sandbagging and refunneling the water direction but without a lot of luck.

The KOA campground had to move a few of their buildings a couple of hundred feet away from the creek, trailer parks along the creek unfortunately got flooded again with skirts and steps torn away, even the hydro dam had its embankments washed away from the high fast waters going around it.

Unfortunately even the towns not near the creeks got hit hard if they were on hills. Lots of funneling rain water came running out of the hills, through houses and down roads making a mess of every road you drove around here. Sinkholes and absolute drop offs as shoulders were washed away and debris in the roads. Of course even the detours for the closed bridges had to have detours! What a mess!

Thank gawd the rains stopped just in time and gave the water soaked lands time to absorb and the creek to recede. Whew! Lengthy cleanup for lots of people.

Movin' on

Well after a whirlwind visit with Jim's family, my sister, and a few friends we headed out on the planes (never stopped over in San Fransisco before) to NYC and then got on shuttles to Penn Station where we took the train to Utica. Trains are a very nice way to travel! You get to move around and see lots of the country. Don't know what it would be like to have to sleep on one for days (if you couldn't purchase a sleeper car ticket). Hmmmm might have to try that sometime.

What we want to know is what happened to the 80s? Someone said it had been 80 degrees just a few days ago and now it's in the 40s. Can you say BRRRRRRR?

My sister-in-law Pam and nephew Andy picked us up at the station and then off to our room in the country (their spare bedroom) for the night. Let the visiting begin again!

Babysitting for Grandpa
04/09/2011

Well we should say that Grandpa Jim did a bit of babysitting to help out Kathy. HA HA! It's been quite a long time since Jim changed a dirty diaper! Dylan was such a good boy for Grandpa.

Back in CA
04/06/2011

After busing overnight from Guaymas, we hit the streets of downtown LA where Jim was promptly complimented on his legs (BTW by a really good looking, tall black guy- LOL). We then bused into Burbank and hit the nearest Big 5 store for new boots and sneakers (can't get Big 5 deals in NY that's for sure). Then it was off to meet Jim's girls (Danyal and Samantha) and grandboys (Cole & Dylan) at the park. Had some ice cream and some fun then off to our home (aka Danyal's room) away from home (i.e. the boat) away from home (that'd be NY) and crashed!

Looking much better
04/01/2011

Keel repairs are almost all finished. We'll have to bring some bottom paint next season and get it coated and it'll be better than before!

Hot here the last few days - high 80s and low 90s. Still taking apart the boat, booking rides, buses, planes, trains (everything except boat HA!) for all our travels for the next couple of weeks.
