Living the Dream
Limestone is hell
06/20/2011

This picture pretty much says it all! Phil was working on our new porch border of limestone, 2 to 3 stones high. Limestone is soooo pretty but such a pain to work with! They are heavy, heavy (40-60 pounds each) and awkward (you always bang a finger) to move by hand. We are salvaging from one of the foundations we have to make the new porch walls. Thank god we didn't decide to make it higher than that.

Looking good though huh?

Happy Father's Day
06/19/2011

We had a great big outdoor picnic for all our fathers today. 6 total with us and 2 remembered. In this picture, left to right top down are Mic, brother Jeff, neighbor Dick, Dad, Phil and brother Larrie. Lots of good food, lots of refreshments, exceptional weather (thank you gawd it did not rain. All of these people would not have fit in our house!) and wonderful visiting with everyone.

What fun we had with our new horseshoe pit (what a difference the 10 extra feet makes on these regulation pits - yikes. We like cruiser pits much better LOL).

We had the 1st annual Summit Rd Ext Golf Classic, something between miniature golf and non-pro golf. There were hazards - trees (actual deep woods), tall grass (anywhere from 3 to 8 feet), garden (you got a free drop out of my garden), flowers (which got trampled if I wasn't watching), road ditch, corn field, farm equipment, cars and house glass ( you break it you fix it). Did I mention that all of the Holes are a par 10? Probably the two funniest shots were when 1) my brother Larrie took his shot out of the woods and it ricocheted off of nephew Andrew into a great playing position at Hole 4 and 2) when my sister Annette's beau Mic tee'd off at Hole 5 and his ball ended up in the tall grass hazard between the corn field and Hole 6 ON a burdock leaf about one foot off the ground! On the 8 Hole course most of the players ended up in the 60s or 70s so not bad for redneck golfers!

Back to regular programming

Well now that all the wedding stuff is over, we are rushing to get the garden in as we are late, late, late! For those of you non-gardeners, in the northeast that means it was supposed to be in no later than Memorial Day!

Phil worked hard plowing and tilling the garden, getting poopy dirt from the neighbor and tilling that in. Then I staked the rows and started planting. Got it in, in 2 days but ran out of room for corn and the pumpkin ended up going around the smoke house as there was no room for them either.

Hope she's a good one this year!

Michelle & Brad Got Hitched
06/04/2011

Well it is finally the IT day! After all the preparations, crocheting, food making, field mowing, and decorating - my niece Michelle and beau Brad got hitched today. What a nice wedding ceremony, quite different as the wedding party left the church in monster trucks and oldies but goodies. They kept a few surprises for us like Uncle Bobby, his wife Toni and Aunt Roy from my mom's side came from Vermont. We haven't seen them (unfortunately) probably since my mom passed. It was so great visiting with them! And niece Joelle and her 2 girls came as well (haven't seen them in a few years). The girls are so grown up, they all look like sisters!

Then at Mic's field where the reception tent was set up, they had all the old tractors set up as tent anchors. Kind of neat! They set up two cooker/smokers - one for fresh (let's just leave it as you could not get fresher) pig and one for beef and the buffet line had endless supplies of sides. Yummy!

We talked and danced the night away. Even got to hang out with an old school mate whom I haven't seen since graduation day. Talk about a trip t the past! What fun!

Happy Birthday Danyal

Happy birthday Danyal, Phil's oldest. Sorry didn't get a picture of birthday girl on her birthday so here's one from when we were in California.

Jack & Jill party
05/14/2011

Went to my niece Michelle & Brad's Jack & Jill party. Just in case you don't know what that is, it's the boys & girls pre-wedding party. No individual bachelorette/bachelor party. Everyone here seems to have them so it must be the thing to do but outside of this area are they as popular?

Had lots of fun visiting with family as I really didn't know most of the party goers (such youngsters LOL).

Up next, oooo baby, with a month to go ...... the wedding!
