Steve/Overcast and cool still
10/13/2008, back in Island Harbour from Holland

Hi all,, sorry, this is a bit barse ackwards but I thought i would put it in for you. I promise I will BUFFS.

Just received this lovely picture of our eldest grandchildren, Keira and Harley and we thought we would share it with you.

Latest. We were employed at zero notice to fly to Amsterdam and sail a brand new Nautitech 44 catamaran to Southampton for display at the Boat show. Everyone was so please with our ability to get up and go for it that we were asked to do the return trip as well. We collected Salty Cat 2 from Southampton last Sunday and sailed her to Calais for a night stop and refuel, then punched a north easter (maximum steady force 8 for a while) up to Den Helder. We continued without stopping through into the Wadenzee (the tidal, northern part of what was known as the Zuider Zee) and through the easternmost sea lock into the Ijselmeer and on to a marina at Makkum, where we delivered her safely to her owner. We then spent a couple of days in Amsterdam and then went on to Haarlam to see the Corrie Ten Boom house. Didnt get in but we intend to visit it on our way back to Schiphol Airport on Tuesday. We then went from Haarlam to The Hague and on to Gouda for the night.
This morning we drove down to Brugges in Belgium. What a truly beautiful place to visit and one we would definitely recommend AND on we are definitly going to return to.
We fly home on Tuesday and yours truly has a week off before teaching for a few days (I think).
more soon,,,,,,,,,,,,,, honest...!

Chilling out
Steve/ overcast and cool
10/13/2008, Island Harbour, Isle of Wight

Well, Sailblogs seems to have let me in again, so I thought I better
add an update. I know my computer has a death wish or something as well as Sailblogs making me log back in again at every turn - all a bit frustrating. I tried to do this a couple of days ago but something happened and my trusty laptop ate a whole page of A4 and vomited it somewhere where I couldnt find it. The machine was then thoroughly admonished, electrocuted with 440v 3 phase, chopped up with a petrol chainsaw (petrol, mind you, none of these cheap copies) and thrown unceremoniusly into the marina from the foredeck. I am pleased to say that it took the telling off and is now behaving itself.

So, BS apart, we are kinda having a ball of it really. I work teaching sailing, motor cruising and powerboating, I go diving from time to time, we have been known to wander around a golf course aimlessly (literally, my aim is useless, but Ba has a straight shot that an SAS sniper would be jealous of) and squander ridiculous amounts of sausage on our 7 grandchildren. Apart from that, life is quiet for us retired folks.

Spent the summer teaching and skippering and delivering boats here and there. Just got back from a delivery from Holland to the Southampton Boatshow and then back to northern Holland. We spent 5 days touring and then flew home, to go straight into another motor-cruising course. tough life. This week we doing nothing, just catching up on correspondence and stuff (til the phone rings again that is).

Our plans include having our house back for the winter (we rent it out as a holiday let and it is doing quite well), while we do some decorating and stuff and also prepare Wight Mistress for the next epic. We are off to Holland again at start of April for around 3 months or so, or til something else comes up. Nice quiet Christmas - first one at home since 2005.

If I can keep this running I will put some pics up on it.
