"One Nation Indivisible" . . .Opps. Highly Divided, That Is

14 February 2016 | Pago Pago, American Samoa
Kimball Corson
"Sanders bloviates about billionaires and his infinitely implausible pipe dream from Never Never Land...national health...," so says one liberal friend.

I share this author's despair, but better someone who tries than someone who merely presides over the sinking status quo. Our nation is incredibly divided from propaganda thanks to Koch & Friends (who included Scalia, who attended some of their strategy retreats with Justice Thomas) and gridlock is our prospect unless the American people can become motivated.

The dividing line is rather neatly between those who to one degree or another were hooked on the economic propaganda of Koch & Friends and those who aren't. Of course those hooked deny it, but the truth is there was no great divide before Koch & Friends geared up in the early 1970's. There was only what Eisenhower described as mainstream America where Republicans and Democrats were not so far apart and could work together and the kookie fringe of the John Birch Society whose founding funder was Fred Koch, the brother's father. Those hooked have no credible alternative history or explanation. To be sure this is a historical simplification, but as a future major history on the divide will show, it is a dominate thread or set of forces.

Now, we are divided largely on social nonsense issues, minorly, and economic issues, majorly. Economic ignorance is at an all time low, with most college graduates failing a test on personal finance, economics in its simplest form. The propagandized public is irretrievably lost on economic matters such as regulation, the function and operation of markets, macro economics, public policy and the huge quantum of data supporting the truth of these matters. All has been undermined by propaganda and is reduced to ideological sound bites. Reason and good analysis are out the window. The cry is for free markets when analysis shows that the markets which perform the best are those most regulated.

The problem is compounded by the heightened insecurity of the propagandized who correctly observe we are in decline, largely for economic reasons they mistakenly blame on liberalism. Greed has arisen to assuage that insecurity. Ignorance of the mechanism of progress attends. Resentfulness, anger and petulance are the pathologies of those successfully propagandized. The oligarchs are after economic control and the victims of their propaganda either don't see it or think that is fine without understanding the implications.

We are not dead in the water but we are badly stalled or worse by this nation divided.

About:
Kimball Corson: I am a 75 year old solo sailor, by choice. However, I did take on a personable, but high maintenance female kitten, now a full grown cat, named KiKiPoo when she is sweet, or KatKatPo after she has just killed something like a bird or bat. [...]
Extra:
Although I was a lawyer and practiced law with good success for thirty years, creating significant new law, I never really believed in the law, the politics of law or in the over reaching self-interest of most lawyers I met. Too much exposure to Nietzsche and other good and seriously thoughtful [...]
