I like this place! The ancient Genoese walled village on the hill, overlooking the small marina with its large anchorage, is full of French restaurants, bars, bakeries, and ice cream stands. The steep walk up to the village is well worth the sweat. On the hillsides around the bay there are relatively new, upscale homes (estates?) and some remaining small plots of farm land. The very rocky mountains rise quickly behind the coastline making a dramatic backdrop for this scenic village. This is France but it also is NOT France. This is Corsica first. It has the French flair but there is an undercurrent that I can't actually define yet. It has to do with a lot of Cuban flags and posters of Che Guevera, even wine labels, that make me think that there is a strong Communist leaning here. This is just a hunch but it adds to mystic of Corsican Bandits which are legend. I have not seen one so maybe they are just that: Legends. Currently waiting for and prepared for another gale to blow through before we move south to rendezvous with Nate.
