With best intentions of putting some miles north under our keel we raised the anchor early and headed across the Firth of Lorn toward the Sound of Mull. We knew the tidal current was forecast to be against us for the first three hours at about two knots. In this part of the world your day must be planned by the currents much of the time. The full moon spring tides made it as bad as could be. With three knots of current pushing against us our view of Duart Castle on the southeast point of the Isle of Mull lasted too long and enticed us to put the anchor down in the bay underneath the castle and near the Torosay House. We toured both. Fabulous places! The photo of Threshold in the top left corner of this page has Duart Castle in the background. There is not the space, nor do I have the time, to tell these histories but I am told that it is easy to find if you do a quick Google search on those names. The present owner of Torosay is Chris James, inherited from David James. I suppose we could claim relationship but that would have to be a very long shot. So, after two nice events we set out again about 17:00 and motored the twenty odd miles through the beautiful Sound of Mull to Tobermory. As we set hanging on a vacant mooring we ate another of Karyn's fine dinners and then watched the DVD of "Entrapment" with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Much of the movie featured Duart Castle which added to fine day ashore.
