It was two and one-half days (literally days) and 354 miles from Kristiansund to Bodo. It was bright day light the entire time. The darkest it got was when a squall blew a load of rain through about 10:00 this morning. At midnight the sun was just below horizon highlighting the clouds on the horizon. It is cloudy tonight so now being where we should see sun all night doesn't count. And there are the mountains to consider. Out sailing we didn't have those. Here in Bodo we are surrounded by these steep, jagged rocks standing very high straight out of the water. The last 75 miles or so of this trip we were "inside" the islands and fjords. Many of the larger islands have homes on them in the tiny spaces formed by gashes in the rock that has some how filled with land above sea level. There may be a garden or two but there are no farms. These days the homes are summer homes. Earlier times these were fishing shacks. That was all they could have been. Speaking of fishing: I learned how to fish here today. You put down a weighted line with little feathered hooks tied on every foot or so for six feet above the weight. Then you jig. Now I thought that the fish would bite the feather to eat it. I was wrong. On my second try I pulled up two Cod. That is two on one line. Neither one of them bit the hook. They were both snagged in the side. One can only try to imagine how many fish are down there for this to happen. Fine fresh filleted fish for dinner tonight. It is like a fine fall day in the mountains now, only warmer...54F with snow pockets in the rocks above us.
