77 29.5'N:14 33.5'E Today was primarily about prepping for the 500 mile passage back to Norway. From all we could gather it was not a good day to leave. Tomorrow may be better. So, this morning we checked over the boat for an offshore trip which meant: pumping the fuel sump to make sure there was no water in the fuel, stowing gear that wouldn't be needed, my going up to the top of the mast to check the rigging. It wasn't much really as Threshold is still on the go from her passage north. We did motor about 5 miles to a new, dramatic anchorage. Here we are surrounded on all sides by steep, snow covered mountains. From where I am typing in the pilothouse I can see four glaciers creeping out of the low clouds. Earlier, while we hiked to an abandoned cabin on shore, the sky was clear and the sharp peaks above the glaciers were all visible. I hope to put a respectable photo on the blog when we get to Tromso in about a week. That is the plan. We will get up tomorrow and head south, past the Sorkapp where we were nearly trapped by the ice on our arrival, past Bjornoya at the halfway point, and into the fjord system that makes the Norwegian coast. Starting tomorrow our blog entries will be "noon position reports" until we arrive at a new destination. We are sailing toward Tromso.
