We're Back! Actually, we have been back for a week. The Scottish weather has been mostly cooperative with only yesterday being wet. This has made it possible to accomplish many tasks in preparation for re-launching Threshold.
The rig is resting on saw horses in the side yard. Karyn has cleaned and polished the entire mast and all the standing rigging some of it for the first time ever as this is the only time it has been reasonably reachable. I have sown leather spreader boots on four spreader tips to protect the new sails from chafe. We also discovered the shims of the masthead sheaves were seriously worn and required replacement. Our excellent engineer and friend Niall Falconer had new shims created over night. Now all that remains is to rerun the running rigging and employ the crane to lift the mast into place. As always that is a nervous time.
At any rate it is good to be back working on and improving Threshold. We should be back afloat in a week after the bottom gets repainted, but that is another story. In the mean time we have a comfortable apartment near the yard which is far better than living aboard while on the hard.
