The final 24 hour push

28 July 2012 | 173 miles to go
Ken
We are 173 miles from the finish line, it should take us less then 24 hours to complete these final miles. I have 1 clean shirt left, so after a shave and total body wipe down tomorrow (Sunday) morning I will be fresh as a daisy and ready for the finish. We have decided not to spend much time cleaning the boat once we reach the dock, we will return Monday morning for a final boat cleaning, Until then we will stow all the lines and sails as we motor into the harbor and after we clear the Agricultural Inspection and other legal paperwork we will finally be able to step off the boat to be greeted by family, friends, loved ones and a cold Mai Tai.

There is a lot of hope and anticipation on the boat as we try to put enough distance between us and our competitors to make up for the time handicap we owe them. The primary drivers, Bill, Kim & Brad (The Worshams) are driving extra long shifts to squeeze every knot of boat speed and mile of distance they can from Tiki J and the wind. Stay tuned, we won't know the final results until after the other boats finish late Sunday night. After 12 days and 2070 miles of racing it could come down to a miles or less that separates 2nd place and 4th place in our class.

Until then I have 1 more Midnight to 3:00 AM shift to get through and then the early morning 8:00 AM till 12:00 noon shift. Hopefully I wont be called for after hour duty, but I am always on call so only the wind and weather conditions know for sure.

Note: We have kept the boat time on Pacific Time the entire race, this is standard procedure on all boats but it will make for an interesting transition when we step on to the dock and instantly gain an extra 3 hours.
