We're headed to San Francisco! By that, we've made the big turn to 068 degrees, which is the initial great circle heading to SF from our current position. Don't be alarmed if you see us heading below that after a while, as the initial wind direction will likely set us a bit south once it fills in. But we have 900+ miles to make some North for our approach to the coast, and the predictions call for another light patch about two thirds of the way there where a low pressure system will come out to greet us. We might even fly a chute with winds from the WSW if there's enough pressure to support it. After it passes, we'll start to get the more familiar N'ish winds for the home stretch (but not but around 15 knots if predictions hold). Back to the light patch, some of our BacCup competimates may be in somewhat of a bind as we're already hearing (on the SSB roll-call net) of some that are low on fuel, and they're hundreds of miles behind us. We'll be keeping our fingers cross ed that they get some favorable winds so they have fuel if necessary to keep their pace.
Back to the title: Vince spotted a green glass fishing ball, so we made a slight detour to pick it up. There were some interesting crabs and clammy/wormy looking things riding or attached to it that are in for a rude awakening as they sink through the 18,000 feet (!!!) of water below us.
I know now that I should have explicitly ruled against Googling my movie quote challenge. Did I really have to say that?! :-)
