Spin Doctors

16 July 2016 | 33 38'N:137 46'W,
Brad
Pancakes for breakfast were a big hit this morning - thanks to Boat Mom Kim and her two helpers for an excellent start to the day. To put that feat in perspective, breakfast was served while travelling at 9-12 knots on a spinnaker run in 20-24 knots and 8-10 foot seas.

The last few days are a blur, but here goes with a highlights reel:

- launched the A4 Thursday afternoon, which gave us a welcome boost of speed. That lasted until midnight when the tack line attachment blew up. Yes, an all hands quick douse at midnight...

- undaunted, we relaunched the A4 Friday morning after "improving" the tack line rig, and were rewarded with a personal and boat best of 14.6 knots at one point.

- know what dead downwind means? ...especially with an asym? Wicked forestay wrap. No fingers to be pointed - what goes Tiki J stays Tiki J. I feel like we witnessed a true miracle when it finally came free, so off we went for a few more hours.

- the wind finally clocked enough to make the A4 unflyable, so we put a bow in it (litterally) on takedown because the snuffer sock was fouled in the previous wrapping exercise.

- nevertheless, we launched the S5 without a flutter, and it's been our workhorse for the last 24 hours. Scott registered 14.2 knots a few minutes ago.

- without giving too much away, we see a left turn in our future.
