Time Bandit

It’s back to the Caribbean leaving a chilly USA east coast for the winter months in the sun.

If It Doesn't Move, Varnish It

22 March 2016
Well, actually the floor does move but not as much as it was a couple of weeks ago.

El Niño or just typical Equatorial or Equinox weather I don't know but there's been little real life wind for a long time. Consequently the swell and the rolling have diminished so it's actually quite peaceful.

Until the parties start.

Four young Americans, surfer dudes are anchored next to me in their borrowed 56 footer. All hair and stubble.

However, as usual it turns out their parents did a good job.
Despite their tales of adolescent DUI's, misuse of other "substances" and run ins with the cops they've turned out jolly nice chaps, good company and somewhat embarrassingly, good cooks, not to mention one good photographer (www.bummy.biz Be careful if you Google that)

Well mannered boys that not only surf but do their own washing and cooking. They even have their own boat recipe book. We had four different flavours of pizza all kneaded by hand that afternoon.

Quite the dinner party circle here what with the surfer boys, Mike and Isobel and other passers by we can grab.

Meanwhile I'm still struggling to find the shoreside laundry and get past anything that fries although I have discovered the Ecuador version of Pot Noodle. Not only do you get a nutritious chemical meal but you get a free varnishing pot.

We saw rain for the first time today in yonks. I don't recall when it last rained. So, out came our indescribably expensive Saturn Sails rain catcher for its first go. Once again we forgot the magic question; "and how much will that be?"

One hour later, its 2% of its way to paying off as with the decks washed clean, me also, soaping up and scrubbing off in the downpour to the amusement of the passing tourists, there must have been 250 litres of fresh rainwater in the tank.

At $0.50 a litre saved, that was a good productive morning; not forgetting the second coat of varnish on the floor.

Not sure how I'll get to bed tonight though.
