Time Bandit

It’s back to the Caribbean leaving a chilly USA east coast for the winter months in the sun.

Rocky Horror Show

11 June 2013
Alesund, Finnoy and Bud

No one here but us chickens starring in The Rocky Horror Show

When we told a friend of ours we were heading for Norway his one line response was "wrong way". However, he also very generously lent us his charts of the Norwegian coastline.

As we approached Maloy a few days ago I looked them out, somewhat surprised that they were covered in specks of dust.

This "dust" turned out to be rocks! The coastline is littered with them. Almost one for each of the wrecks strewn along the seabed. And so, we are under way on our Rocky Horror Show picking our way between the rocks and skerries finding our way into the deserted villages and harbours.

As has been the theme since we got north, we are either too early or too late. In Norway, we a definitely too early. Too ally for the sun, the tourists and hence open restaurants, shops, in fact anything exhibiting the slimmest signs of life.

The upside is that there's always room on the pontoons. In fact, other than one other boat, in each harbour there's been either just us or at most, one other soul shivering in their cockpit "enjoying" the long summer nights. And believe me, at 8c the nights are very long.

Finnoy where we were last night and Bud where we are tonight (Sunday 9th) are small holiday towns. The houses are very similar to our house in Boston. In fact, the whole place looks very much like New England just with not quite as much life..... and that's saying something.

The weather is pretty rubbish. Other than the two days of sun last week it's been overcast, grey, wet and chilly. Sailing needs full thermals, oilies and hoods and collars fully wrapped around your noggin. We got online yesterday and there's supposed to be a high pressure coming our way. That will either just pin the clouds to sea level or give a decent spell. We're hoping for latter so we can keep some of or failing momentum to get north before having to turnaround to get home for the big wedding.

Now, about at speech........
