Patience is a Virtue

Not one of my strong points! These last 48 hours have taxed me somewhat. When a "gust" is when you get 4.2 knots and top speed when it's maybe worth dropping the water towed generator is 2 knots you know it's light airs. We've persisted, flying the gennaker for hours, in fact days on end, up and down like a yo-yo and if it wasn't for the current pulling us along at an additional 2 knots we'd have chucked it long ago.
I'm reminded of the old days at the Scottish Series when on one overnight race, after hours of trying to sneak along the west coast of Arran in the pitch black and totally flat calm and when repeated requests by the crew to throw in the towel were ignored we pressed on trying to catch every puff. Finally I had to get some sleep and Henry took over the helm and the crew lobbying started again.
No sooner had my head hit the pillow than the engine fired up. Today Anne reached that point and after trimming all night in 0-2 knots at 08:00 I handed over the helm and vvroooom, on went the banger. Sadly it looks like we will have to motor the last 200 miles as there's no wind forecast for the next week. So, we will just have to struggle along in this beautiful rolling Pacific watching the swell, the dolphins and the seabirds go by. 100 miles to the equator. Not been there before.
