No wind today

Chad / Clear and hot
Not even a promise of wind so its back to the island (49 12.07N 115 13.16W) with everyone for some more fun in the sun and water.

We had a really great time over there and I got to meet the fellow with the San Jaun 21 that has been zipping around the area. He motored out from the north end of the cove where his cabin is nicely tucked into the tree line (49 12.75N 115 13.47W). Would love to have a place like that out here. Nicely secluded from the heat of the sun, close to the water for easy access and an easy haul out to the cabin at the end of the week. He was hauling out every night. But it wouldn't be hard to put in a solid anchor during the fall or spring when the water is out and then run a ball for the summer to anchor to. There was a McGreggor 24 doing just that in the same cove we have been beaching at. He's got a trailer up on the hillside in the RV camp there.

The San Juan was a nice little boat. pretty small and sparce for space in the cabin compaired to the Balboa but a whole lot bigger cockpit for people to ride in. The kickup rudder and fully retractable keel makes it nice for beaching as he did when he came over to visit. He laned up on the shallow lake side and pulled her right up to the dryline. Can't quite do that with the Balboa, don't have a kickup rudder. But even if I did put one on it I still have a little over a foot of keel that remains below the bottom of the boat when the keel is retracted. He was a nice retired gentleman out with his grandkids and gave me a little more info on the timing and the wind currents for the area.

All in all it was a nice day even if we never got that sails aloft.
