Here is our wonderful TOBIAS after being hauled out of the water and placed in a "strategic" location for the best exposure to potential buyers. Our good friend Orhan helped us get the bottom all spruced up so that we could get out of town on time - and on to the next adventure.

Casey Gets a New "Do"!

Here are a couple of pictures from Suzie's Barber Shop! I think Casey is handsome whether he has long hair or "no hair". What do you think???? Is he not "one good-looking dude"?

28 December 2006 | After Christmas
Wow, everyone must think we sunk the boat or something, it has been so long since my last entry. Before Christmas there just really wasn't much to write and I couldn't write that I was traveling to Charleston for the holiday as I was surprising Ryan and his family - they didn't know I was coming and I sure didn't want them reading it in the blog!

I rented a car and drove up - was gone 5 days. Christmas was just the best with all of my family together - except Kirby who had to stay to watch the boat.

I have so much to write, but I have not had one minute and we are leaving today to go to Miami. I was really tired after my 9 hour drive on Tuesday and then yesterday we did all of our last minute running around - getting propane, last Costco stop for loads of Tee Pee etc and then the grocery for our fresh stuff. Then we had a wonderful evening with the Pollard's at their home and said our goodbye's to them. We are going now to return the rental car, back to the boat and we are off again!

We hope to head over to the Bahamas in the next few days. When I do, the phone won't work anymore and my internet will be like it was in Nova Scotia - only done at internet cafes so my emails and blogs will not be as often. But the good thing is that we will be warm!

19 December 2006 | Visit with the Pollards
Seven years ago we welcomed the new Millennium from right here in West Palm Beach - Juno Beach actually. On Friday as we arrived we had so much fun checking out the places we knew, only this time from the water. Sunday we shared a day with the friends who got us here in the first place, Jim and MT Pollard. Yesterday we set out on foot to explore our old haunts.

Jim and MT Pollard have lived in Jupiter for over 30 years (Kirby has known them even longer than that) and we came to visit in 1999, enjoying them and the area so much that we rented an apartment and found employment!

Jim picked us up by the dinghy landing after we wedged the dinghy in between the crowd and secured it with lock and chain. (It is reportedly a high theft area). This was our first time with no dinghy dock. But the water was warm to our bare feet and the sand soft. We enjoyed a wonderful day with them catching up on each others lives. We enjoyed seeing their son, Jason and his family - 6 year old Cole and beautiful 4 year old Matilda. We had barely finish lunch when MT offered to make us curry for dinner! We don't ever pass up MT's Curry!

MT is from the Seychelles and that is where she learned to cook so wonderfully. She knows what spices to use and I think uses some magic also. Dinner was just fantastic! The day was too short but hopefully we will get to see them again before we leave.

When we came here in '99 we looked all around for a small apartment, finally settling on Juno Beach. We now sit less than one mile from that place. We are shopping at the same Publix store and walking the same streets. Something just seems a little odd about the coincidence - almost like it was all meant to be.

Note: I have added some pictures of the Pollard's in my Photo Gallery - under "People".

25 November 2006 | Wappoo Creek
Cabin temp 55 degrees
The sky is clear with a high of 66 predicted for today. It is 6:00 am. We are preparing to leave at sunrise today. Our stay in Charleston was not what we had planned due to the nasty weather but the good times we had were exceptional!

After a great Thanksgiving in which most of us ended up with tummy aches, we took Grandson Casey who is 14 back to the boat with us. He didn't get to have the Intracoastal Waterway experience that Brendan did but we had a good time getting him to ourselves for the night. On Friday morning he rushed out to take pictures of the sunrise over the water and then later he and I took a nice walk through the lovely old homes in Charleston Village. Around noon we cast off the dock lines and motored over to Wapppoo Creek where Christie met us at the Charleston Crab House to retrieve her son.

I took quite a few pictures over the holiday and will post them in the gallery in a couple of days. Probably won't have internet tonight as we will be in a remote area of the ICW and then on to Beaufort, SC tomorrow. I can't believe we will probably be in Florida within a week. Ah, warm!
Vessel Make/Model: Freedom 35 - TOBIAS is named for a creek in the Sierras where we camped many times, Suzie proposed to Kirby and then spent our honeymoon. We love both the boat TOBIAS and the creek TOBIAS!

We are actually from Southern California and sold our last sailboat in Mexico. We decided to go east to purchase our next boat so we traveled to Maryland where we found Tobias. We spent the winter of 2006 living aboard and preparing Tobias to go cruising. In May we departed and headed north. We [...]
