Off to Block Island
15 June 2011 | Cuttyhunk!
Sunday was a day of rest and recuperation – and a little bit of ship’s maintenance. The hot water heater had decided to spring a leak! Turned out a gasket had failed, which meant no hot water and no pressure water for the remainder of the weekend. We decided to plow on with a trip to Block Island on Monday anyway… Sunday night Laurie prepared us a wonderful Clam-bake – enjoyed by all.
Monday the seas were flat. We set off for Block, but having gotten out to the ocean, the captain decided to change destination to Cuttyhunk… We motored nearly the whole way there and then took a mooring. Laurie was convinced that Cutty didn’t charge during the week – but I was less optimistic as we watched 4 boats anchor outside the mooring field… We did indeed get storked for $40!
Tuesday morning the winds were up. From the NNE – good job we weren’t in Block – the ride would have been a long one!
We made good time out of Cutty to the Sakonnet – leaving at 9:30 and getting to the Sakonnet around 11:00 – but then had to tack up the river. After about 5 tacks, Laurie was ready to kill me, so we turning on the iron genny and made the mooring at 3:00pm. Sufficient time to get brother Steve and his Wife Sue, back home, packed and to the airport for his flight to England.
