09/17/2009, Whites Landing Double Hooked

Wow! What an excellent anchorage. I now fully understand why John Wayne considered this his favorite spot at Catalina. We are double hooked about 30 feet from shore with clear blue water and white sand bottom. Last night was like anchoring on a lake. What a break from Isthmus where we would get rocked ever 30 minutes by a shoreboat.

We don't have any cell phone reception here and therefore no high speed internet, so we will have to wait to post pictures. Today we will be cleaning the boat and diving...it is rough, but someone must do it!

Cheers for now.

09/16/2009, Long Point Catalina moving South for diving

We finally hauled anchor today and headed to Long Point for some diving. The winds have abated and the sun is out warming things up.

We had Ron and Cheryl M/V Lazy Days over for a wonderful dinner last night. We talked for hours about Mexico and the great places to stop and visit along the way. Lori also made Peach Cobbler from scratch which was an especially nice end to the evening.

Tuesday we made about 100 gallons of fresh water and then an hour later it was dumped into the bilge as a result of a bad hose fitting! Man was I pissed...nothing worse than watching your bilge pump suck 4 hours of effort overboard. Another lesson learned I guess.

Shaken-down @Catalina
Ken/Windy and Overcast
09/13/2009, Isthmus Catalina Island

It has been blowing 15-30 knots day and night since we arrived on Thurday. We drug anchor on Friday night and had to reset for the first time ever. The good news is that the Lighthouse 1501 windlass works like a champion...it is such a comfort knowing that we have a strong and reliable windlass now.

On Friday we also got hit by a Catalina 36 who drifted down on our bowsprit. The Catalina suffered all the damage. My gennaker padeye punched through their hull and bent a stantion in half. We were sound asleep when it happened and the entire boat rumbled when they hit us.

We also had a small glitch with the genset AC. A loose connection on the power bus took an hour to trouble shoot...but is fixed now. The freezer is sustaining -14F and fridge 35F. Batteries remain full since wind generator is pumping 24 hours a day.

We are now taking the opportunity to decompress...feels good.
