September is over...But what a month!

Who ever said..."Time flies when you are having fun" forgot to mention that when you work very hard time still flies! Here it is exactly 43 days since our house addition began. The shop building was moved, septic field dug and installed, cement pillars put into the ground, sub-flooring laid, walls framed and raised, old roof merged with new roof line and today, many roof rafters were nailed into place in the bedroom wing! Rob & I have working on this labor of love with Rob's vision and design work REALLY becoming a reality. We were so lucky to have our friend Alan come all the way from Penngrove, California to share his expertise and hammering abilities in getting all of the outside walls framed and raised in 6 days! We've had some wonderful help from Dana Meklin, a local carpenter and as well as our friend Terry here on the island. The weather this past month has been nothing less than spectacular! Most days in the 60's and 70's, many of them sunny and only a couple of days of rain. I must admit I have learned alot about this construction business! A whole new vocabulary! Top plate, Header, kicker, Jack stud, King stud, cripple, just to name a few!
Looking forward to October, the roof should be on with the help of Jerry & JoAnne, who arrive on the 3rd so we should be weather tight by mid October when the doors and windows are due to arrive. Keep checking our photo gallery, as pictures will be added as we progress. Of course I need to get yet another camera, as salt water and digital cameras don't mix.
