Ahhhh...the Marina Life!

09 August 2008 | Puesta del Sol, Nicaragua
Jan
Okay...now this is nice! No mosquitoes, calm waters, securely tied to a slip and only 2 other boats at the docks were occupied (and 1 of them was the owner Roberto and his wife!) Once again we have a restaurant with delicious food, a gorgeous pool, small laundromat and all practically private! We arrived on Monday and traveled Tuesday to the nearest town, Chinandega, only 45 minutes away to do a little grocery shopping. We were able to get a little glimpse of the pretty country side and enjoyed the sites of a mid-sized Nicaraguan town where vegetables are still brought to the mercado by horse drawn carts! The Marina van driver took us to 2 different grocery type stores, the last one being the best..La Colonia...it was VERY airconditioned!Back at the Marina we met a lovely couple, Hugh & Heather Bacon, (she's a retired school teacher) aboard Argonauta I, who have been living aboard for several years and sailing around the world! They shared some great stories and gave us some great information on weather and traveling south, as they just came thru the canal on their way from Venezuela! We all shared a beautiful sunset at the Puesta del Sol's palapa on the beach before theywere leaving for a vacation back home in Canada... We completed a few boat projects, washing the boat (using dock water), cleaning muck out of the anchor locker from the last anchorage and prepared for our overnight passage to Costa Rica! As the sun rose on the last day it was the clearest we had ever seen Volcan San Cristobal. Hard to leave such a sight, but on to COSTA RICA an overnight passage to our next destination...Bahia Santa Elena!
