Life is Terrific!
23 June 2012 | Clark's Cove Bay, Grenada
Sue
A week ago Friday, we relocated to Clark’s Cove Bay, a mere hour away from anchor to anchor.
This area is more like the Grenada we were expecting. There are two small marinas across either side of the bay and a small village at the end. We’ve changed locations three times but feel that this third one is the right place for us, for now. It’s like the story of Goldie Locks & the Three Bears…but on the water…the first spot was in line with the jetty/fishermen’s dock so there was a lot of boat traffic during the day…the second spot was rolly…when the tide changed, the movement of the water would catch the side of the boat so we’d roll back and forth sideways for a while; it can get pretty uncomfortable. This third location is across the bay from Whisper Cove Marina and north of Hog Island (check location map). We have a good breeze to keep the boat cool and the rolly motion has stopped.
Whisper Cove Marina is owned and operated by Marie France & Gilles, originally from Quebec. What a great couple; they welcome everyone with open arms and make you feel right at home; their staff are also very friendly and outgoing. Gilles is the butcher/chef and Marie France is in charge of operations.
Needless to say we’re having a great time with old and new friends. We’re anchored by Au gre des vents, Christopher Robin, Desiderada and Serenity whom we've met at a happy hour. Last Sunday afternoon there was a jam session/pizza dinner at the marina; there were approximately 12 musicians and 60-70 people in attendance.
Tuesday, we, along with 10 other passengers, boarded Shade Man bus for a shopping expedition. The stops included: bank, Ace Hardware, beer store, Budget Marine (I feel the guys all like this run so far), Spice Island Mall for lunch & groceries at the IGA, bulk food store then back to Clark’s Cove Marina where we had initially boarded. The trip on the bus was a riot with jokes and puns all the way; it felt like a school trip…LOL!
Wednesday we were entertained with a dinghy concert hosted by a neighboring marina, Le Phare Bleu. A barge was brought to our bay which was set up as the stage. A cement platform was attached next to it with seating for those without a dinghy; Le Phare Bleu provided water transportation to those who had none; the rest of us showed up in our dinghies. The band, native Grenadians, was very good but they sang show tunes which disappointed many who had attended previous concerts as the other bands played more upbeat tunes. If you want to see an excerpt of previous concerts, go to youtubedinghyconcert.
Thursday night is chicken & fries, a la St-Hubert BBQ, night with live entertainment. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to see our friends from Nenu-Far, Island Girl, Me Gusta, Habibi & Julia Maria. They are all in St. George, either at the marina or anchored. Whisper Cove provides free transportation to those wanting to attend one of their functions; told you they were a great couple.
At this point, we feel like we’re working part time. The days when we’re not out playing with our friends, we tackle jobs on the boat; this past week’s chores include cleaning, varnishing and changing the oil in the engine. Dan also did some final touchups to a bit of rust. Since it now rains on a regular basis, we don’t have the rust problem we had encountered in the Bahamas.
Today, Saturday, Dan will chauffeur Nicole of Menalippe and I to Clark’s Court Marina so we can take the shuttle to St. George; it is market day here as well and I was told that the pineapple here is the best.
To family & friends who will be celebrating, as we will, tomorrow….Joyeuse Fete de la St. Jean Baptiste!
