Alligator v Turtle Standoff

Nancy
Ed's birthday today!

Left anchorage at Whiteside Creek at 8:00 am. Very windy and gray. Put us the jib to help the engine on the ICW.

Did the stretch from Whiteside to Winyah Bay pretty much at low tide. Passed another Tayana "Pagan Chant" crazy enough to do this shallow part of the ICW. Don't know where he anchored; we may see him again. Nice looking boat. We made great speed with the engine and jib in the ICW; 7+ knots.

Had a mishap with the jib sail in the Minim Canal. We tried to roll it up to make it easier to jibe when we got to Winyah Bay. We were doing this in a very stiff, gusty wind and the furling line got knotted in the drum and we couldn't pull the entire sail in. Ed had to go to the bow to release the line in the drum. Lost big flathead screw driver in the process. Better than fingers.

Waves, wind and current with us in Winyah Bay. Turned engine off near Georgetown and used jib alone. SOG 7 knots.

Anchored in Bull Creek, SC at 6:15 pm. Had to set a trip line; stumps in water. Saw a huge alligator doing a face off with two small turtles on a log. Got picture.

We plan to wait out the incoming crummy weather here tomorrow and do a few boat chores. Set a second anchor; tornado watch issued.
