City Dock

We were underway from Avery Island for Morgan City Monday morning at 0635. About 0700 we turned left from Bayou Petit Anse into the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway at Mile 146. The run to Morgan City was through some beautiful country. We saw lots of birds, including Egret, Heron, Osprey and a few Bald Eagles. Otherwise the trip was uneventful except for having to wait for the railroad bridge across the Atchafalaya River to open so we could get to the City Dock at Morgan City.
Capt Jim, a friend from Kemah, is master of a crew boat that is based in Berwick. We gave him a shout and he came over to the City Dock to catch our lines. That was the first in a string of courtesies and general neighborliness we experienced while in Morgan City. The dock is on Front St, right in the heart of the Morgan City Historic District, and Truthsayer attracted many people who just wanted to get a closer look at her. Almost without exception, the visitors offered any help we might need, including rides to the grocery store, restaurants, laundry or a hardware store. People just came up and introduced themselves. We met a member of city council, the mayor, and the coroner, plus business people and fellow sailors. It was a wonderful reception and we are not likely to forget it anytime soon.
On the 14th we awakened to a thick fog. The photo looks as mysterious as it did in real life.
