Sunset over water
10 August 2015
This is the first sunset we have seen over water. The much awaited green flash alluded us due to some clouds on the horizon. Fortunately, just as the sun dipped below the first cloud, we saw a green glow above it. Not the green flash but promise of more to come.
We were in Kincardine in Ontario last night, a small resort town about 120 miles North of Port Huron. The water was Caribbean blue over a sandy bottom. We went into the old harbor for diesel, then headed out to anchor in mostly open Lake Huron. No problem, it was a quiet night. We could see the anchor bury in 15 feet of water. It may have been Caribbean blue but it was Great Lakes cold! We swam (showered) and I scrubbed Uproar's bottom.
We dinghied into town and had a nice dinner on a patio, overlooking our anchorage.
After dinner, sunset watch.
Today we are in Bayfield and had cocktails on Traveler with Tom and Brenda whom we have seen in several ports. They had some great, simple boat recipes from can or dry goods.
Try this one: 1 cup mayo, 1 cup dried Parmesan cheese, 1 can drained and chopped artichokes. Mix and bake until crusty in a shallow dish like a pie pan. Delicious! After that and other snacks, we put the pork chops we thawed away, we are too full for dinner but not too full for ice cream!
Tomorrow we sail (hopefully not motor) to Port Huron, clear customs and hang out.
