Heading Out
30 March 2017 | Burnt Store Marina
April is now here and, as in previous years, we are preparing for our annual April cruise. We anticipate being out for 30 days or so, depending on the weather. Until a couple of years ago, during this outing we would head across Florida to the East Coast with various intended destinations as goals. Except for the Bahamas, we achieved them all. We’ve had our 1998 Catalina 36 for 15 years and have had wonderful experiences on her, including living aboard for the first nine years. She is a wonderful boat and has served, and still is serving, us well. We are, however, older and live in an area which is considered as premier cruising grounds. We are taking advantage of it.
We will be leaving the slip April 1 and will be heading north, once again, to St. Petersburg and perhaps to Gulfport and Clearwater. We know the waters well, have anchorages we like to visit, and are aware of marinas we can use if weather requires it. The projected forecast is good. A front with higher winds is predicted next Monday and Tuesday. We will head for Cape Haze Saturday and wait out the front and then continue on Wednesday. After that, no set schedule. That is the way it should be.
