Departing April 1
30 March 2015 | Burnt Store Marina
We are making final preparations for our planned departure on April 1. We have done this so often in previous years. Patty and I each have lists we dig out, update, and complete. It is not difficult, but just takes time.
The boat is in excellent condition. We had pulled last summer to have its bottom repainted. While it was out of the water, the boatyard replaced the dripless packing gland. It had started leaking last spring when we were returning from the East Coast, causing us to continuously monitor and adjust it. Being over 12 years old, it was due for replacement. In addition to some other minor repairs over the summer, we did upgrade our television antenna at the top of the mast to pick up the now digital over-the-air broadcasts. After all, it is time for the NCAA Final Four, the Voice and American Idol.
Our first stop, of course, will be Cape Haze, where we have anchored over 100 nights since 2003. We will then continue north to Otter Key, the Manatee River, and then on to St. Pete.
