Rough passage to Horseshoe Island
23 July 2017 | Horseshoe Island
Sunny, strong headwind and waves
We went to mass, and left 2-3 hours after Mark did. And that made all the difference. We got rained on going through Sturgeon Bay. Not a lot, but enough to get everything wet. Then the wind was on the nose, and the wind and waves kept building. At one point, we could barely make any headway. When our spirits reached a low ebb, we suddenly started making some forward progress and were able to reach our anchorage ... where we anchored three times. I don't have a windlass, so that means manually pulling up 60' of chain. Folks already anchored there were very helpful. Mark and I were further out where it was rougher. So one of the folks further in where it was calm, came out in their dinghy to offer advise on some quieter spots where we could anchor. In the small dinghy, like mine, were a man, woman and two cats. When we anchored a second time, someone offered to dinghy over and take a stern line ashore for us. After all that, Mark and I ended up anchored back where we were in the first place. Pat had said don't move in the first place ... she was right. Well, maybe our spot is a little better. 🙂
