Things that go bump in the night
29 July 2017 | Beaver Island
Sunny, pleasant
At dusk, the ducks come and peck on the hull. It is very annoying, especially the first time when you don't know what the heck that sound is. Door banging? Boat hitting the bottom? I have no idea what they are after, but they are all over the hull.
The blog photo shows the fuel truck coming to the island.
Issues I've encountered while making the overnight trip across the lake to Beaver Island:
The fuel jugs must be tied in a certain orientation or else the winch handle hits them making it difficult to sheet in the genoa.
The auto pilot ram quit responding near the end of the trip, triggering an alarm. Had to get that back online and make a guess what caused that. I think I know. My better way of stowing the fenders might not be better after all.
The boat smells a bit. The holding tank is full and some of the contents escaped into the bilge during the rough passage. I tried to pump out at Egg Harbor, but the pump out broke just before I could get there. I will pump out tomorrow and do some more cleaning up, but I don't know how the liquid escaped. I have two guesses, so I will keep an eye on this.
Now to go shoo away some ducks so I can sleep - it is 10:30
Apparently the ducks can't be scared away. They come right back. Need a dog for this.
