Here comes the lake ...
25 August 2017 | Brewerton, NY
El 397. Partly cloudy and cool.
Locks: down 11' then up 7' Still a lot of north/south today. Maybe even a little westerly in there.
We are stopped at Brewerton. A nice wall with a nice bar and restaurant, but no electricity, restrooms, etc. Roger fired up the generator for the first time. That works well, but I don't understand why running his engine does not get his battery voltage up over 13. Something is not working right.
We fueled up at Winter Harbor Marina. It is self serve. Ess-Kay Yards is also nearby and had Valvtec treated fuel. We never see any sailboats at the marinas, so we are never sure they will work for us. The walls are easy and free or $5 for electricity. I am not using any shore power with my solar panels. Removing the middle panel and having the mast there with the shadow does reduce my power input, but with all the motoring, I am getting by.
We saw our second sailboat today. There were also more power boats going the other way. Tomorrow we cross Oneida Lake. It reminds me of Green Bay with all the shoals one has to avoid. After the lake we get serious about locks. There are a lot of them as we enter the last leg of the canal. Today we went through two locks, but the last one went UP instead of down. It turns out that the last lock and the next two go up.??
Based on what I am hearing, there is a race track nearby. Very loud on this Friday night.
