Attemped a day sail ... still mostly a motor
25 September 2017 | Waukegan Harbor
Sunny hot and calm
I am at O’Hare airport in Chicago headed back to Annapolis. Yesterday morning I had breakfast with Pat and two of her kids: Steve with wife Mary, Melissa with fiancé Larry. Steve and Mary had recently backpacked in the Canadian Rockies. Melissa and Larry were just back from a trip to New Orleans.
After breakfast Pat and I headed north to Waukegan, where we met all our harbor friends. After exchanging sailing stories and catching up, we went for a short day sail on Steve and Sharon’s boat. In keeping with our tradition, we mostly motored in search of wind. “I see some wind over there!” So we would motor over to the wind and enjoy a few minutes of sailing until it died. We did that several times until it was time to return.
We ended the day at my usual 6pm mass followed by ice cream with Jim and Marybeth Baum at Oberwies. Ice cream at Oberweis after mass was how Pat and I got started. Leaving was hard for both of us. We will see if the visit nudges her closer to retirement and joining me. She claims that was my plan all along. :-)
Roger and Tari and friends are still in Annapolis, so we will meet up again this afternoon and see where the journey takes us tomorrow.
