Naval Academy and Boat Show preparations

02 October 2017 | Annapolis
Sunny and cool, but delightful.
This morning started with a pump out. There is a boat that goes around and pumps out your head. Very convenient.

We three took a tour of the Naval Academy. Beautiful campus and facilities. Everything is modern and up-to-date, without losing the old classic look of the buildings. I posted just a few photos in my blog gallery. We found the tour fascinating.

When we dinghied in to shore, Erin and Kara from Vela went in at the same time. I mentioned them in a previous blog. We parked our dinghies together and introduced ourselves. So we went from meeting in Facebook to meeting in person.

Later I waved down the owner of the boat with the steering wheel removed. He was dinghying by me. I asked if I could copy his idea. I wanted to make sure he didn't have a patent on it. :-) He and his wife have been admiring my boat, so he was happy to stop and talk and find out what make of boat it is. His wife complained from their boat that he was stopping at the pretty boat and didn't take her.

Boat show preparations are in full swing. On land tents are going up, moving vans are arriving, banners are being unfurled and police are directing traffic. On the water the floating dock poles have been pounded in and the numerous floating docks have been installed. And the display boats have started arriving. Big cats (catamarans) from charter companies like Sunsail and The Moorings. There are several large boats from Beneteau. One was flying a drone. One of the Beneteaus kept circling and motoring slowly past me. Like the Sirens from Greek mythology, calling me, "Come on, John ... you know you want one."

There are three smaller boats used to push and pull and shove the floating docks into place. Their names are: Push, Pull, and Shove.
