More things that go bump in the night
14 October 2017 | Washington D.C.
Cloudy and pleasant with some sun late
One downside to mooring balls is their tendency to ride up next to the hull and thump against it. It is very annoying when you are trying to sleep and you imagine the metal fitting on the top of the ball scratching your hull as you hear it go thump, thump against the hull, seemingly right next to your head. This happens when the wind is light. Last night there was an additional thumping on the hull, accompanied by a voice. They wanted my anchor light on. When you are tied to a can in Chicago or Annapolis, they don't require an anchor light. Mine is on now. One of the boats here does not have anyone on board, so what will they do in that case?
Roger and Tari had ducks attacking their hull last night, more things that go bump in the night.
We spent the day at two museums: Natural History and American History. There is no admission fee. There is so much at each museum - I felt like I could spend 1-2 days at each one. There is a section about the Chicago subways and CTA. They were using propane gas engines on the busses over 50 years ago. I thought that was something new. Guess not.

Tomorrow warms up a bit and we may even see the sun before the cold front comes through - reminding me why I need to head south soon.
