The pain of it all
03 November 2017 | Jacksonville, FL
Sunny and pleasant.
My niece, Jen, came and picked me up this morning. We took the long way home and drove through downtown Jacksonville. I saw the NFL stadium and we drove through the parts that were flooded by Hurricane Irma. There are many river areas downtown. The striking thing about downtown is the people, or lack thereof. One can drive blocks and only see a handful of people - it is deserted.
Husband Chris, Jen and beautiful little girl Charlotte went out to lunch with me. Charlotte was shy and playing hard to get, but I got her to warm up to me, at least a little.
After lunch was when the pain started for real. The toothache took hold both before and after lunch. It is making me miserable. Dentists here don’t work on Friday, or if they do, not after 3PM. Then came the electronics. The USB cable I use on the boat didn’t work with the laptop. Despite the clear, flashing, neon sign warning me, “Danger, John, danger!”, I went ahead and tried to upgrade the IOS on my backup iPad. It is now totally bricked. I see now the battery on it has died. I will plug it in and see if there is any recovery possible. The next pain was trying to find a marina that will take me at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I got close (no outright rejection), but no call back, either. And the shroud repair guy never called. On a positive note, when I did pushups this morning, my elbow didn’t hurt. It has been bothering me since early in the trip and seemed like it would never heal. So maybe other things will get better, also.
