The deep blue sea ... one boat down.

08 February 2018 | Nassau Harbor Club Marina
Sunny, 80
I pulled up anchor this morning at 7, along with Ugowego. The Morgan 30 left earlier because they feel they needed a head start. Kristtaney and Paradise Hunter left around 1:45 am after they couldn’t get Lyn evacuated from Chub Cay due to insurance issues. They had the insurance, but insurance companies have ways to avoid coming through when you need them. Two of the boats went to Rose Island. Three of us are at a marina in Nassau. Lyn’s good knee is now her worse knee and is immobilized. She is also taking some medication. There are rooms at this marina and that is where she is staying. She flies home tomorrow - their trip has ended just as it was getting started. Roger and Keith will take Kristtaney back to Florida to be put on the hard until next winter. With help from Jerry, Paradise Hunter will be moved to Rose Island to wait for Roger’s return. The weather may keep us holed up there anyway. The next step is to see what supplies come off Kristtaney and get moved to other boats.

Keith has been hand steering this whole trip. He loaded so much beer on his boat, that the autopilot has been drunk and unable to steer straight anymore. Keith thinks if he can take away some of the beer, he can get it sobered up so that it can be useful once again. Roger and Keith might need it when they take the boat back to Florida.

I was in the anchorage last night and the boat rolled all night. Not a good sleeping night. Today the wind was from in front - about 25-30 degrees off the bow. I had the main up, but it was a slog into 3-4 foot rollers and waves, and 15-16 knots of wind. There was a fair amount of spray and I struggled to keep 5 knots at a slightly reduced engine RPM, trying to conserve fuel. The wind was supposed to be light, but that never happened. Not an awful day, but not a pleasant one, either. The blog photo shows me traveling in water over 9000 feet deep. The water is a deep blue.

We went to Dominos in the shopping plaza across the street. There were security guards every so often standing outside. The doors to Dominos were locked - you had to be buzzed in. That is life in Nassau.
