24 December 2011 | Hawksbill Cay, Northern Exuma
Actually sailed today. Left Nassau Harbor and motor sailed for awhile. Then as I was able to head south past Yellow Bank, I was able to sail..... Great sail >7.1 no seas to peak of. Spending the night in Hawksbill Cay before heading to Warderick Wells tomorrow. Some thoughts.... Other than the obvious, I have been asked many times why I thought this trip has been so much different than the last one. After much thought and reflection, I have been able to come up with at least one reason. I am not sure if it's because I have changed or it's the different cruising crowd here that I have met or maybe even because it's the “holidays”. There seems to be just more of a sense of community here. People genuinely care about your welfare and well being. At least the people I've met so far. Not just passing acquaintances. And that makes all the difference in the world. Not sure if that made any sense . But it does to me While I was writing this I was sailing between Nassau and the Northern Exumas, heading to Hawksbill Cay. I was sitting in the nav station. and I heard the reel start to whine. I hooked a fish. Before I could get up to the cockpit, whatever was on the line, stripped off all 500 feet of line and then broke it. The reel is empty. Line, lure everything. I don't know what it was, but it had to be big and FAST.
