Anchor Envy

I thought I would upgrade my ground tackle before I left for this trip. I was always very happy with my 44lb Bruce pictured here on the right. On the left, is my new Manson Supreme 60.
I guess I'll sleep even better.

Great choice, got a 45 lb version of it this year. Just be holding onto something when you snub that rode, these anchors bite right now and if you're using all chain the boat stops instantly. Awesome anchor, best I've ever used.

Now that's an anchor. I was looking at them in Annap. Deb thought I was nuts, but now that you have one....
10/10/2011, Deltaville Va

UNABATED is back in water! BUT..... not without problems - too many to list right now.
Beckie was here on Saturday and Sunday (after doing the Boat Show on Friday) helping to load all the food and supplies on board. Her jeep got a good work out. Not to mention a complete electrical diagnostic check up (a tale better left to be told after a bottle of rum has been consumed).
Not part of the same story but happening within moments of each other, Beckie hit her nose on the framework for the dodger...... Yikes did that smart.
After an x-ray today - it's cracked but not broken though... and the black eyes and cheeks are turning yellow now.....and it hurts to wear her glasses. G-d bless that woman - she's more than a saint.
The boat is a mess and everything needs to be put away.
Hopefully we can get the engine started tomorrow.
All for now...... tomorrow I'll tell you about how a 44 lb Bruce looks next to a 60 lb Manson Supreme....I wonder how I ever slept at anchor....

Winter 2011 -12 Plans
09/29/2011, on the farm

For those of you who have not heard yet of my plans for the winter, I am taking UNABATED south once again.
UNABATED has been stored on the hard in Deltaville VA. for the last year and a half. Since then, I have traveled to Virginia to do various odd jobs including removing the engine to repair oil leaks and hoses too difficult to replace while engine is in place. I had the V drive rebuilt along with a new prop shaft. I also had the strut and prop straightened and re pitched. (See last blog entry) A month ago I scrubbed the bottom and reapplied bottom paint (green this time).
UNABATED will be launched on Monday the 10th. I have a slip for two weeks while I put her back together and check out all the systems.
The plan, as it stands right now, is to do the ICW though Virginia and N.C. to
Beaufort. From Beaufort to Fla I plan to do a series of short, possibly overnight hops to various ports along the East Coast. Interim destination is Stuart Fla. to resupply and make a pest of myself with Ron & Joyce while I wait for a window to cross to the Bahamas. Maybe a side trip to Marathon or Key West (weather dependent).
I am planning on getting a mooring or slip for a few weeks while I return home for the holidays (hint hint for those who host holiday parties).
I plan on exploring all the places I missed on my way though the Islands on my way though last time.
Anyone interested in exploring with me or coming down to get away for a few days, I'd love to have you join me.
I'll be starting up my blog again for those of you who wish to follow along at home.

More to follow
